Film: Danish Regional Film Funds

Woman standing and speaking in front of a map of Europe.

Since the late 1990s, the Danish regional film funds have been successful in encouraging the development of audio-visual production and talent outside the capital Copenhagen, where the industry predominantly existed before then. They have contributed to the small nation punching above its weight in the film industry and at the same time have boosted the industry and local economies in other regions of Denmark, notably Funen (with FilmFyn) and West Jutland (the West Danish Film Fund or Den Vestdanske Filmpulje).

Join Dr Pei Sze Chow of Aarhus University in this short film as she discusses the funding landscape and production behind famous movies such as 'In a Better World' by Susanne Bier (Hævn) and Danish period dramas 'The Legacy' (Arvingerne) and '1864'.

This is the fourth in a series of short films on the humanities and social sciences in the Nordics and the world, supported by the University Hub ‘Reimagining Norden in an Evolving World’ (ReNEW), NordForsk and Aarhus University. Research conducted for this work was supported by funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sk?odowska-Curie grant agreement number 753597.
